SonarSound Washington ::
14th May 2009

Thanks to the Spanish Embassy in the United States and the Cultural Institute of Mexico, Sonar comes to Washington for the first time to organise an event as part of the programme of activities “Preview Spain. Arts&Culture09,” which will be held every year between April and June until the inauguration of the Spain/US House in the American capital, which is scheduled for 2011.

SonarSound Washington is being held in the city's famous Cultural Institute of Mexico, with a programme that include two mexican artists (the veteran Panoptica and the promising Cubenx) and artists and projects from the national scene (ReacTable, Griffi + DJ2D2, Aqueel, d.a.r.y.l.).

ReacTable

The ReacTable is a collaborative electronic musical instrument, with a touch-sensitive interface based on a board, and is inspired by the modular synthesisers of the 1960s. The instrument was developed by the Musical Technology Group at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, and Björk purchased one of the few ReacTables in the world to use on her world tours.

César Urbina comes from Puerto Vallarta, and is considered one of the young talents of electronica in Mexico and Latin America in general. His exquisitely produced techno and classical vision have already attracted the attention of several international labels and many of the world's most important netlabels. His track "Glándula" has been played by James Holden and Michael Mayer, among others, and his most recent "Can't Throw a Stone EP", on InFiné Music, is heading in the same direction.

Roberto Mendoza, known on the international circuit as Panoptica, is one of the most established and highly respected producers in Mexican electronica. The co-founder with Fernando Corona (Murcof) of the Norec Collective, as well as a member of the group Artefakto, his albums for the label Certificate 18 attracted the attention of John Peel himself, who invited him to record one of his legendary Peel Sessions in 2001. As well as being a producer, Mendoza is also a highly regarded remixer and dj.

Del Palo Soundsystem: Griffi + DJ2D2 feat. Aqeel

Two cases full of funk wisdom, fresh rhythms and the world's best hip-hop for a head-to-head session bringing together two icons of the Spanish scene. Griffi, half of the essential Sólo Los Solo and the man behind the recent and highly nutritious “Strictly Jabugo Series Vol. 1,” arm in arm with the multi-faceted DJ2D2. A true luxury for lovers of high quality breaks. The pair will also be helped by the presence on the mike of Aqeel, one of the safest bets in the Del Palo stable.

Thanks to a case full of explosive rhythms (including Chicago house, braindance, acid, minimal, electro and melodic techno), he earned the spot as resident DJ at Barcelona's The Loft club. He has recently begun a career as a producer in two different directions: corrosive and danceable house with The Requesters and adventurous electronica with Hivern.
