The place where the bass of funk, the sound of electro and psychedelic meanderings meet has regularly been visited by several recent producers, but perhaps none of them has done so in such a personal way as Jimmy Edgar. The still young but experienced musician from Detroit (he started messing about with synthesisers at 10 years old and was performing live at 15) adds large doses of soul and twisted funk to a sonic pallette that is rich in details and styles, on both his releases for Warp over the last decade and on his new album for Studio !K7, which has the torrid title of “XXX”, and is previewed by a single with an even more explicit name: “Hot, Raw, Sex”.
